"Birchwood Forest"
"Birchwood Forest" is a mixed media piece from watercolor and soft pastels measuring approximately 15"L x 6.5"H. I have added an ink print showing the picture in a stunning black and white print which I like more than the color version. Both are currently available.
A stand of slender birch trees rises against a bright blue background, their bare white branches etched like delicate calligraphy across the dusk sky. Each trunk glows with a soft luminosity, as if holding the last light of day within its pale surface.
Below, the earth dissolves into an abstract tapestry of watercolor and pastel with swirls of mossy green and metallic gold intertwine like a forest floor seen through twilight. These rich, textured strokes suggest fallen leaves, lichen, and the first hints of frost without defining them literally. The contrast between the crisp white birches and the moody, atmospheric ground creates a striking balance between realism and dreamlike abstraction.

** Please note: Each of the original pastel paintings have been created, handled, and stored by the artist. As a result, they may carry gentle evidence of the studio process—subtle surface variations, rough edges, or marks from moving and storage. These are not defects but part of the unique character of an original work.
